Like most people (including indigent people), I don't approaching to be stereotyped. Yes...there are ancestors who are just plain idle...
But then in that are hundreds of thousands of homeless people who are severly mentally sick. They ended up homeless when our political affairs cut spending in Psychiatric Institutions and pretty much open the front doors and let them out...to budge where?? To the streets.
You can inform which ones are conning you...and you can see which ones are truly broken spirits...if you don't "ignore them approaching most New Yorkers" as one person answered.
I dispense them money...what they do with it is their business!!
It take a very broken soul to decide that beseeching is the best way to earn a living...even the con artist...how much self respect / pride can that creature have!
Call me a sucker...I don't prudence...I can live with myself, and sleep.
I would speak:
"you have two arms,two legs,and a brain.Use them.Make your own money.Make your parent Proud."
